
When you meet them, you realize who they are. They become real to you.
They are not just a soldier, a person in green, with a gun. Look beyond that. See the eyes, the face, the hands. The smile.
This is someone's son, someone's brother, someone's beloved family. This is not just a number, a symbol. This is a person, someone's person.
I was trying to explain why I don't feel that this is my country, because I am American, I don't have an Israeli passport. He told me, don't think about that. Just like this is my country, this is your country too.
And this someone is fighting for me, for my country. I'll never forget that.
