אין לי מקום לשבת- (No place for shabbos)

This is what every sem girl goes through, every week she has a shabbos chufsha. (off shabbos.)

Ok, not every girl, only those that have no relitives here. That's moi and half the other girls here.

Todays Monday. I started looking last week. And I still have no place to go to for shabbos. I am not worried, I'll find a place. I always do. I mentioned it to my mother on the phone. Big mistake.

Rule #1: never mention to mother.

me: "Hi Ma, ya, schools fine, life's good, didn't go to class today, yup, slept in again. No, no place for shabbos yet"- and that's where the conversation ends.

mother: "Why don't you call this family? They're my friends for years."

me: "no ma, I don't know them."

Mother: "but they are so nice"

me: "I'm sure they are, but I don't know them, and I'm not going to someone for shabbos claiming to know them, through my mother. I'd rather go to strangers. And if they're so nice, then you can go to them for shabbos."

And on. And on. I tell her not to worry, I'll find a place.

The funniest was when she kept mentioning that a friend of hers had a sister who lived in yerushalayim, but she didnt know the name. She kept promising to find it out. When she finally did, it turned out this lady's husband was one of my Rabbi teachers. I laughed and told her I didn't want to go to my teacher's house for shabbos.

So I am still in search of a place for shabbos. Preferably in the old city. This is my second to last off shabbos, as sadly, the year is coming to an end. (Not thinking about it yet.)

Any suggestions? Please call: 1-800-suggest-a-home. Only serious enquiries please.

  1. I don't know any phone numbers in the Old City, but I do know a very nice couple in Nachlaot. Let me know if you would like the number. (When I was there, they had many random seminary girls in and out of their home.)
