It came out of nowhere. One second, the wall was empty, vast, in all it's whiteness. The next, I looked, and there it was. A tiny creature, crawling up the wall on its spindly little legs. I watched in amusement, as it scurried too and fro, up and down, not sure which direction to take.
I waited for the girly shrieks, announcing that it has been spotted, and will soon be smashed into nothingness, by the shoe of someone brave enough to do so. Possibly me. But they never came. The little thing was safe, for now.
It was cute, I decided. I observed it for a while, and the next time I looked, it was gone, as quickly as it had come.
A bug is so simple. Its only focus is its destination, food, shelter, protection. Its only fear is getting killed along the way by some cruel human, who can't bear the fact that this bug exists, or by another creature, who eyes it as food. But never do emotions come into play.
Bugs don't have the ability to think, to feel, the way humans do. They just act, try to survive. Their goal is not to bother you, only, you may become bothered by them if you allow yourself to be. But it is never their intentions.
They aren't close to anyone emotionally. They create no lasting bonds, involve themselves in no relationships. They are as far away from humans as they come, on the spectrum of life.
Wouldn't it be more simple so be a bug, a mere creature, than a human? To only worry about one thing, survival. Not easy, but simple.
Emotions cloud you. They blind you. People get in the way of your goals. Humans are complex, difficult to understand.
Relationships can go both ways. They can hurt, they can break you, or, they can be beautiful. But you can't know the outcome until you at least try. And even trying can result in heartbreak. So what's the solution?
Wouldn't it be cool to be a bug for a day?
Impressive (the new comment area, I mean).
ReplyDeleteI'd love to be a bug for a day....free of all worries and problems...
ReplyDeleteBut I'm afraid not everyone would like me as a bug. Hmmm...
1. You had that kind of existence as an infant. Just it was better, because mom fed you and nobody stepped on you.
ReplyDelete2. My pops always quotes this midrash that says that everything was created as it wanted to be created. The bugs wanted to be bugs, and the people wanted to be people. So way back in the mists of time, you agreed to this crazy thing called human life.
Yes, a flying one would be cool.
ReplyDeletefor some reason u dont remember agreeing to this
ReplyDelete*I dont remember
ReplyDeleteUnlike e, I don't think we ever really have the choice. Perhaps we once did, but if we don't remember it happening, did it really happen at all?
ReplyDeleteWe can never be a bug, or an animal, or anything else than who we are. The only think we can do is grasp for the character traits of such things that we find desirable and run after them, even though we are not a bug. Pick the traits that you find attractive and go with them.
yeah, you got the choice before God created you. You weren't created yet, so of course you don't remember.
