No sleep=????

The study

"Americans suffer from a chronic lack of sleep, according to a study released on Thursday, which says the problem is a bigger public health problem than is generally recognized.

The study, published in the most recent issue of the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, a health journal, found that almost one-third of Americans get less than seven hours of sleep per night, which is generally considered the minimum for an average adult to feel rested."

In my own words: no sleep equals minimal functioning ability, lack of focus, and a general tirednessnessness.

Study or no study, I slept very little this past week, and 18 hours on shabbos. No joke.

And on the subway on the way home from work, a lot of the people in my car were caught with their heads nodding off. Mine included. I think I had one of those unconscious moments where you feel yourself falling, and then suddenly wake up. And a guy was staring at me. All I could think was, hey, if you were as tired as me, you would do the same thing.

The solution: go to sleep earlier!!

  2. :) Ahhh, the power of growing old. You realize that you are not young anymore, and can't spend your days and nights 'horsing around.'

So I guess no trick-or-treating for you tonight?

  3. as some one living outside the USA i can tell you that this is not an isolated problem, specific to America. Nonetheless, i agree with you on the importans of sleep. In my case, for example, i need 12 hours of sleep to function normally... and that is twice a day

Like those advertisements that say: 'something big, something larger than life, is coming soon to a theater near you. Be prepared to be dazzled, and have your hats blown off. IT'S COMING! DUN DUN DUUUNNNN!!'

    lol. Good luck!

  10. Persona, i get it.

Hey, are you not afraid to fall asleep in a public transportation wagon IN NYC while a stranger is watching you?

  11. I dont dress up on halloween anyway. Or purim.

I'm not afraid of much. I hold on tight to my purse, and I open my eyes every so often. And if he wants to watch me, creepy, but whatever. I hope that if anything happens there's enough god people on the subway to protect me.

    Naive, I know.

  12. Here is something else you might like. Its a Paraprosdokian. Goes like this:
"I haven't slept for ten days, because that would be too long."

(just to get back to the subject of this post)

  13. haha that's funny. (I didn't know what a Paraprosdokian was, but luckily, we have a really cool tool called google. And now I am a fan of Groucho Marx.)

I wish I could sleep for that long, to make up for all the ost sleep. g-d knows I need it. But now I have a job! As you would know by reading my older posts. So sleep is only possible on shabbos. Thank god for that!

  16. It's SO true, the whole developed world is chronically sleep deprived. I am the most avid reader I know, and i fell asleep reading a really good book yesterday...was so sad :D

  17. I function well on 6 hours. Problem is, I usually get closer to 4 a night. More than 6, and I wake up in middle of the night... except for Shabbos. But I nap every day.

Although today was very depressing... didn't have a bed so no Shabbos shluff :(.

Speaking of Google... click on the logo a few times. Enjoy.
