If someone hires me to type something up, but I don't type so fast, and it takes me X amount of hours to finish it, should I log less hours than it actually took me, since it might have taken someone else half the amount of time it took me? Or perhaps should I charge less per hour than originally discussed?
You were hired to type at your speed for your discussed amount of money per hours. If they wanted someone else to type it who can type faster..they should have asked someone else.
ReplyDeleteOkay that makes sense. They never actually asked me how fast I type though. My father said the same thing too. If they didn't ask me, then that's their problem.
ReplyDeleteI presume you quoted him a standard hourly rate. He accepted that. Charge him the number of hours you worked. It's completely fair. If he finds your fee excessive he can find a faster typist next time.
ReplyDeleteSo, I was in middle of commenting using my phone when I realized I had to make a phone call and being that I was using my phone, I lost the comment when I finally came back to the page. This was this past Thursday before there were any other comments up lol.
ReplyDeleteWhat I was going to say is that it's completely dependent on what you made up beforehand. As you said, they never asked you what your typing speed which shows that it's not something they're particular about.
The only thing that I was wondering about is if you're a really slow typist. When someone hires a typist, there has to be some sort of standard that they're working with. Someone who types 10 words a minute isn't called a typist, so to be hired for that sort of position would probably necessitate you informing them of that. If you're just slightly slower than the average typist, then again, if they didn't specifically ask for your typing speed, you're fine. However, I don't know what constitutes the speed of an average typist and how slow you would have to be that you'd be called a "really slow" one.
charge per project and not per hour... then there is no worries :)
ReplyDeleteElle, who's going to figure out how much each project is worth? Especially if that wasn't agreed upon initially, someone is going to get shortchanged, no? Either Altie here, because if her boss assumes that people type 40 wpm and she types only 30 then she'll be getting paid less, and if she increases her typing speed to faster than 40 wpm, he's overpaying. Paying by the hour works no matter how quickly she types. Although your way does give her a reason to speed up her typing, whereas now she has no reason to do so. But again, if he didn't ask, she doesn't have to offer. But none of us are poskim, so it might be a good idea to ask one of those :P
ReplyDelete:) i didnt even put that much thought into it. but thanks.
